Quality care to remove that skin and nail scare.

Feet: The Radiators & Thermoregulators Of The Body

Foot pain includes more than sports injuries and postural problems. Your toenails and the skin on your feet are just as important to your foot health and your health as a whole, so it’s important to take care of them.

Skin and nail conditions range from cracked heels, calluses, and corns to ingrown toenails and plantar warts. At Foot and Leg Pain Centre, we’re well-versed in dealing with all of these conditions and more, treating them all with compassion and great care. Depending on the condition causing your skin or nail condition, there are many treatments available that may have you confidently wiggling your toes in the sun again before you know it!

Types Of Skin And Nail Conditions

There are many conditions that affect the toenails and skin of the feet. We know that skin and nail conditions can not only cause pain and discomfort, but they can also be embarrassing and affect your lifestyle. That’s why we offer a variety of treatments so your feet can feel and look great!
Routine care for your feet may become more difficult as you age, and a lack of routine care may lead to many common skin and nail conditions and even increase your risk of falls.
Ingrown toenails are when the toenail curves into the skin surrounding a toenail. This usually occurs on the big toe and may be accompanied by swelling and tenderness.
Calluses and corns are hardened skin layers that form when the skin tries to protect itself from friction and pressure. They can appear on the top, bottom or side of your feet and even under your toenails.
Fungal nail infections such as tinea may make your toenails sensitive and cause the nails to change in appearance, such as becoming thickened, discoloured, crumbly, or ragged.
Other skin conditions that may affect the feet include psoriasis, excessive foot sweating, troublesome foot odour, and bacterial infections with pitting.
Warts are well-circumcised lesions located under the skin. They may be mosaic-like cauliflower patches or can develop into multiple individual lesions. Herbal treatments are evidence-based and painless for children. Traditional western medicine approaches are available if it’s your preference.

Treatment Options For Skin And Nail Conditions

The treatment option for you can take a herbal or more widely accepted western approach and will depend on your specific condition and several other factors, such as its severity and how it impacts you.

Painful Ingrown Toenails

We use special instruments to remove irritating toenail edges from the skin, allowing the skin to heal before growing the toenail out. Our experienced podiatrists take every precaution to ensure this procedure is as painless as possible! In extreme circumstances, we have the ability to numb your toe with a local anaesthetic.

Painless Cosmetic Ingrown Toenail Surgery (All Ages)

We can perform cosmetic partial toenail removal in cases where a particular toenail continues to grow inwards, despite treatment. This procedure is called a partial nail avulsion (PNA) and involves removing the ingrown portion of the toenail only, rather than the entire nail, putting an end to troublesome recurrent ingrown toenails.

Your Skin And Nail Questions Answered

You may be able to treat some skin and nail conditions at home if they aren’t too complex, but if home remedies aren’t suitable or don’t provide the assistance you need, we recommend you visit a podiatrist.
We sure can! Our goal is to grow your toenails out so that you can’t have an ingrown toenail and then teach you how to manage your own nails so they not only look fabulous but also feel fabulous!
If you’re experiencing any pain or discomfort or notice any signs of infection, you should seek treatment from a podiatrist as soon as possible.
No, you do not need a referral to see a podiatrist.
In some cases, a condition affecting your skin or nails may heal with time alone; however, if you have an infection, such as a fungal nail infection, it can get worse and even spread to neighbouring toes. As such, you should visit a podiatrist to lessen the risk to yourself and regain control of your feet.
Yes, we take an evidence-based approach to all of our treatments.
